Remote Island Operations

Amateur Radio From Exotic Locations

Radio Amateurs often go to remote or exotic locations and set up their equipment. This is commonly known in Amateur circles as a DX-pedition. As the name suggests it is an expedition to an exotic place by Radio Amateurs, often because of its remoteness or because there are very few radio amateurs active from that place. This could be an island, a country, or even a particular spot on a geographical grid. DX-peditions are planned and organized to help operators who need to contact that area to obtain an amateur radio award. There are several awards sponsored by various organizations based on contacting many different countries.
