About the WIA Technical Advisory Committee
The WIA TAC
The WIA National Technical Advisory Committee provides advisory and coordination services to the WIA.
The Committee is chaired by Grant Willis VK5GR and coordinates the work of some 16 volunteers.
Technical Advisory Panel
The Technical Advisory Committee has a panel of technical advisors, who provide technical information, advice and recommendations to the WIA in their particular areas of expertise. These areas include:
Band Plans
Beacons
VHF/UHF
Microwaves
EME
ATV
Repeaters
Packet Radio and APRS
D-Star
Digital DX Modes
Satellites
Regional Advisory Panel
The Technical Advisory Committee also has a panel of regional advisors. Their duties include:
acting as TAC contact points in their region;
advising on technical or band planning issues that arise in their region;
working with the TAC and the National Repeater and Beacon Coordinator in processing licence applications for new beacons or repeaters.
Band Plans
One of the responsibilities of the TAC is to develop and update the Australian national band plans. These are published in the Call Book and on the WIA web site.
VHF-UHF Distance Records
The TAC processes record claims and maintains a data base of present and past VHF-UHF records for publication in the Call Book and the WIA web site.
Beacon and Repeater Data Bases
The TAC maintains data bases of Australian repeaters and beacons. These are published in the Call Book and are also available for viewing or download on the WIA web site.
National Repeater and Beacon Planning
Frequency planning and licence applications for new repeaters or beacons are handled by the National Repeater and Beacon Co-ordinator in consultation with the TAC panel. Further details are on the Repeater and Beacon Coordination page.
