flight of an AR repeater on a high altitude balloon
To correspond with the WIA National Field Day we will launch a balloon borne repeater.
LAUNCH TIME IS EXPECTED TO BE 01:30 UTC (23/10/10).
This time the payload will comprise a cross band talk through repeater and an APRS beacon. At apogee the radio horizon will be in the order of radius 800km from the balloon position.
We are especially hoping that field day stations will be able to demonstrate this event using internet or RF APRS feeds.
Repeater details are:
Input Freq (you transmit on this) 438.900 MHz with CTCSS 123 Hz (You must use CTCSS tone).
Output Freq (you listen on this) 146.450 MHz with CTCSS 123 Hz.
APRS identification will be VK5ZSN-11.
Progress of the balloon may be tracked via the internet here http://spacenear.us/tracker/ this uses the independent project hours telemetry. The balloon may also be tracked using aprs.fi. or other APRS server or via RF APRS network.
Lots of information about how to decode the telemetry packages on the balloon may be found at http://projecthorus.org/
There will be a net control station to assist with management of the traffic on the balloon repeater VK5ZBR - Horus Control. |

| National Field Day - National Public promotion of our Hobby Club: Callsign:
State: Brief Description :
Full Details : Amateur radio enthusiasts from all over VK will be showcasing amateur radio.
On Saturday 23rd October 2010, Amateur radio enthusiasts from all over Australia will be showcasing amateur radio in prominent locations throughout their local area.
Tine of operation:0900 EDT 23rd to 2100 hrs EDT,= 2200 hrs UTC 22nd to 1000 hrs 23rd.
This activity, new to Australia, will be a good opportunity to break out your field day equipment, demonstrate emergency preparedness, but most importantly engage the public. Most people in the general public would give our hobby a second thought, if they knew a little more about it. This is the opportunity to showcase our capabilities.
The event is not intended to be a traditional contest. We wish to generate as much positive public exposure (and traffic on the bands) as possible. Local repeaters can play an important part in keeping something happening.
Modes/Bands: All Modes & Bands may be demonstrated. Phone & CW, IRLP, Echolink, Slow Scan TV, ATV, colour and movement will appeal to the younger audience.
For further detail, please see the WIA Contest area http://www.wia.org.au/members/contests/nationalfieldday/
