There were 17 attendees at the Assessor training program conducted on Gold Coast on the weekend of September 10th and 11th. Queensland was well represented with delegates from most remote regional areas.

There was a lot of ground to cover but Fred Swainston's presentation was informative, lively and interesting. The entire group were very enthusiastic about the impending introduction of the foundation licence and in particular the new assessment system to go with it. The delegates we pleased with the new "practical" component in amateur radio assessment. The group expressed that this important aspect of assessment was long overdue and that new radio amateurs would significantly benefit from this "practical" training and assessment process. Fred sought and obtained some good feedback on any a couple of areas where clarification in the working documents was required.

The Gold Coast Amateur Radio Society was pleased to host the venue for course on behalf of the WIA. We thank the WIA, Fred Swainston and all the course delegates for their continuing work to move Amateur Radio into a new and exciting era of advancement.
