WIA Director, Peter Young, VK3MV, attended the ACMA’s Radcomm08 Conference held in Melbourne last week. ACMA holds this conference annually and attracts considerable interest from government users of radiofrequency spectrum, as well as the telecommunications, broadcasting, utilities, satellite operators, commercial users, and of course amateurs. This conference was of particular interest to spectrum users with the ACMA release of a number of discussions papers on spectrum management principles, the response to an independent audit of government spectrum, options for re-planning the 400 MHz spectrum, and the five year spectrum outlook. Copies of these papers can be found by clicking this Link
The Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy, opened the conference outlining the challengers in spectrum management for the future. The insights gained by attending this important conference will greatly assist the WIA in preparation of responses to these discussion papers. The closing date for submissions is 18th July 2008.
