WIA Club Grant Scheme

On 28 July 2008 applications for grants under the WIA’s Club Grant Scheme closed.

This year, the Board increased the total Grants to $6,000 and the Scheme was broken into two sections, one part providing for up to three grants of up to a total of $3,000 for useful but not innovative projects or activities, including projects involving repeaters or associated links. The other part will be for projects or activities that are innovative, with provision for up to three grants up to a total of $3,000.

15 applications for Grants were received from clubs across Australia.

The Grant Committee this year consists of Don Wilschefski VK4BY, Deane Blackman VK3TX and Bob Fincher VK3BRF

DEANE BLACKMAN PhD, MEngSc, BMechE, has been VK3TX since 1968, and has previously held a number of WIA offices. He spent most of his life as an academic at Monash University. He retired as Associate Professor in 2003.

BOB FINCHER BE (Elec), FIEAust has been VK3BRF since licensed in 1987. He worked with ICI Australia/Orica Engineering for 27 years in general engineering and project management. He is a Tektronix and HP Test Equipment “tragic”. He retired in 2003.

DON WILSCHEFSKI BE (Elec) VK4BY was first licenced in 1975 and works as Chief Electrical Engineer in Mining. Don is Chairman of the Queensland WIA Advisory Committee, a member of Rockhampton & District ARC and his local Rotary club. His radio interests include satellite communication.

The Grant Committee will be submitting their recommendations to the WIA Board by 29 August and results will be announced shortly afterwards.
