New VK3 Club - Macedon Ranges Amateur Radio Club

The Macedon Ranges Amateur Radio Club is running full steam ahead for its first meeting on March 20. The club commenced formation in November last year with a steering committee of local amateurs with a combined 100 years experience as licenced amateurs. The steering committee (pictured right) lead by Graeme McDiarmid VK3NE and Peter Willmott VK3TQ is being ably assisted by Peter Wolfenden VK3RV, Richard Hoskin VK3JFK, Colin Smith VK3YWY and Ron Burman VK3ZJ

The club will be having a stand at the Amateur Radio Victoria "Centre Victoria Radiofest" being held at the Kyneton Racecourse on Sunday Feb 14th. Why not stop by the Macedon Ranges stand and say g’day to the team. The clubs first meeting will take place at the Woodend Scout hall on Saturday the 20th of March at 10am. An informal get-together and club launch of the club.

The Macedon Ranges Amateur Radio Club VK3RA will hold a weekly net on the VK3RMM 2m VHF analog Repeater on Wednesdays at 8pm with the first net to take place on Wednesday the 24th of March. The net controller will be Peter VK3TQ and all interested participants from the Ranges and beyond are invited to participate. The net will move to VK3RMM 70cm D-Star repeater at 9:00pm where it is connected to the Australian 3B reflector. The Macedon Ranges Amateur Radio Club VK3RA invites members and friends, interstate or overseas to switch on and tune in their Dstar rigs and be part of the weekly event.

An absolute “cracker” guest speaker and lecture is planned for the April 17th club meeting further details will be announced in the weeks to come.

The club intends to be focused on the promotion of radio, electronics and technology in particular with young people through its relationship with the Woodend and Macedon Ranges District Scouts. The club expects to be very active with JOTA/JOTI and assist each section where possible. Two Macedon Ranges Venturer scouts Jacob VK3FJVA (16) and Davin VK3FDBA (15) have vowed to be there on start up day.
