WIA at the Dayton Hamvention

This years Hamvention theme was /Amateur Radio Clubs Worldwide: The Lifeline /recognising the major contribution clubs all over the world have made. The weekend saw 18,000 amateurs from all parts of the world descend on Dayton this year including 15 VK's from VK2, VK3,VK4,VK7, VK8. This year in recognition of the WIA centenary year WIA Director Chris Platt, WIA VK5CP,assisted by Peter Young, VK3MV on the Saturday morning did a presentation at the Contesting Forum on the WIA's history, contesting in Australia featuring involvement of clubs in field day activities. Chris also covered the licensing arrangements and listed all the major contest activities through out the year. The 200 plus audiance was treated to an entertaining video of extreme field activities when things go wrong. Over the weekend there was considerable interest in out VK style activities and for many amateurs VK's are a wanted country. The WIA had on display a range of WIA posters, and brochures and publications that all disappeared quickly.
