Author : Jim Linton - VK3PC

Expressions of interest are being received by the WIA to celebrate the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) jubilee, by mounting a station using the special event callsign VI90IARU. So far 40 IARU member societies have had the 90IARU suffix in celebration of 90 years of the IARU in 1924, tallying up 353,000 QSOs. Another 25 stations are expected to join.

The major mode is CW at 46%, followed by Phone 43%, and Digital 12% of QSOs. Apart from on air contacts, the IARU is offering a handsome diploma by contacting 90IARU callsigns from 10 different countries, members of IARU. Qualifying stations can get the free electronic diploma for QSOs between January 1 to December 31, 2015 – issued either as Mixed, CW, Phone or Digital.

Expressions of interest in using the VI90IARU callsign nominating the date and time (UTC), are now being taken by the WIA office nationaloffice@wia.org.au
