ATO - Not for Profit self review now due

Date : 01 / 10 / 2025
Author : Peter Clee - VK8ZZ

Your non-charitable not-for-profit (NFP) organisation must confirm its eligibility for income tax exemption each year by lodging an Not-for-Profit NFP self-review return.

Clubs that are Not-for_Profits and have a current ABN must declare that they are exempt from lodging an Income Tax Return by a self assessment lodgement with the ATO.

See the details of the NFP self review at this Link

If you are a Non-charitable Not-for-Profit Club or Society and have an active ABN then your 2024-25 NFP self-review return is due to be lodged.

What you need to do

You need to lodge your 2024-25 NFP self-review return by 31 October 2025. Penalties may apply for late lodgement.

You can lodge your return using Online services for business, available at this Link or you can have a registered tax agent lodge on your behalf.

To use Online Services for Business you need to have already set up a My ID and downloaded the app to your smart phone. You will have used this system when you did your NFP self review last year.

If you’ve already lodged your 2024-25 return you don’t need to do anything else.

If you don’t have online access

You can also lodge your return using the Australian Tax Office self-help phone service by calling 13 72 26. This is an automated service, and you will need your organisation’s ABN as well as the ATO reference number which is sent to you by email over the last few days.

After you have lodged using the self-help phone service, the ATO may contact you to help you set up Online services for business.

If your NFP has ceased operating

If your NFP club or society is no longer operating, you must cancel your organisation’s ABN at this Link

If the executive has changed since lat time your club lodged the self review then the email may have gone to the old executive. Please pass this information on to the person responsible and get them to arrange the new details to be lodged with the ATO.

Assistance is available for Not-for-Profit organisations by calling 1300 130 248 during business hours Monday to Friday.
