After the ‘farewell’ gathering at the old Honeysuckle antenna (DSS46) on Monday 20th July, a number have asked for clarification about the antenna’s future. Here’s the latest from Glen Nagle at CDSCC

“Its final track is currently scheduled for August 2nd, but NASA has told us to keep it in ‘operational preparedness’ just in case it is required for mission support. It’s certainly not being torn down or scrapped as some media have announced. DSS46 will also soon be recognised with an Engineers Heritage award from Engineers Australia and our Complex, along with Honeysuckle and Orroral are to be awarded as sites of Historical Aerospace Significance by the AIAA.”

We hear that on Sunday August 2nd, DSS46 will track SOHO and then GEOTAIL until around 23:30AEST, its last planned track. For further information click this Link
