WIA Board Reviews and Adopts Merit Award Rules

Date : 18 / 04 / 2005
Author : Michael Owen - VK3KI

At it’s meeting in Sydney on the 8 th and 9 th April 2005 the WIA Board reviewed the existing WIA Merit Awards.

Honorary Life Membership is governed by the new Constitution, and so no further action was required.

It was agreed to slightly amend the rules of the G A Taylor Medallion award, and to amend the current inscription on the box containing the award to remove the reference to a “Federal Award”, and to give publicity to GA Taylor himself, to give added significance to this important award.

The Ron Wilkinson Achievement Award would continue with slight changes to reflect the new WIA structure. This award is made possible through the generosity of Mrs Mary Wilkinson, widow of the late Ron Wilkinson VK3AKC.

The award consists of a certificate and a cheque for $200, and is made annually with a nominal date of 3 March, the birthday of Ron Wilkinson.

It was also decided to continue the President’s Commendation, conferred as a certificate, presented by the President only on the recommendation of the Board, as a means of recognising an act or activity particularly supporting the Wireless Institute of Australia.

Details of the awards and the rules will be published on the WIA website.

The Board considered making awards this year, and its decision will be announced at the Annual General Meeting and Annual Dinner in Canberra on 7 May 2005.
