June Fox retired on July 1 after 18 dedicated years of service to amateur radio and the WIA. June joined us firstly as a bookkeeper and as time progressed and the number of employees in the office reduced, she assumed more and more responsibility for the running of the office.
By 1999 the office staff had reduced to just two, finally ending up with June, Emma Trebilco and some volunteer support from Brenda Edmonds, VK3KT. This small, efficient team has been responsible for preparing and distributing license examination materials, marking papers, keeping accurate computer and hard copy records, providing results and issuing between 25 to 50 examination certificates per month. In addition they maintain the membership database, this work includes updating, preparing and sending membership applications and renewals, AR subscriptions and Callbook sales. Then, of course, there is the bookkeeping, payroll, super, taxation etc, members, the directors, the general public and endless flood of inquiries by telephone and email.
June will remain available to assist Judith Oliver over the coming weeks as Judith settles into this demanding position as office manager.
June has given a large part of her working life to the WIA and has been the voice of the WIA office for many years. She has managed a huge role; often working additional hours with no pay to make sure the job was done. The amateur service is deeply indebted to June for her dedicated service to amateur radio and the WIA and it’s members.
An email address has been set up at farewelljune@wia.org.au and we would encourage all members to email June to thank her for all that she has done.
Lastly, June has expressed a great desire to take a short holiday to Darwin where she lived before joining the WIA. Several members have asked if we would be collecting to purchase a gift for June on her departure, the answer is yes and the gift is to contribute to June’s holiday. If you wish to contribute then please send your contribution to the WIA office, marking your letter or the envelope “June’s gift”.
The contribution can be in the form of a check, a money order or a credit card payment via the phone or via the form accessible via the link on the right hand blue column on this page. The form can be faxed or emailed to the office. Don’t forget to let us know what the payment is for.
Finally, the board of the WIA would like, on behalf of all members, to express their heartfelt thanks to June for her help, her courtesy and her cheerful contribution to amateur radio over the years.
