The ACMA has frozen the issue of new 2 letter amateur callsigns, across Australia.

Date : 31 / 10 / 2005
Author : Michael Owen - VK3KI

Under the new amateur licensing arrangements, callsign groups allocated to the Advanced licence include all groups previously allocated to the Unrestricted, Intermediate and Limited licences. That is, a person with a Z call may now apply for a callsign previously only available to a full call.

However, callsigns with 2 letter suffixes are in very short supply in some States, particularly VK2, 3 and 4. Because of the anticipated high demand for 2 letter callsigns, they are not being issued until an equitable arrangement for their allocation can be put in place.

ACMA are developing new arrangements for the issue of 2 letter callsigns. These arrangements will be notified shortly.
