Date : 18 / 12 / 2009
Author : Robert Broomhead - VK3DN

Phil Maskrey VK3HBR was interviewed by Gippsland ABC Radio station presenter Gerard Callinan, the interview went to air simultaneously on 100.7 fm and 828 am at about 7am on the morning of Thursday the 17th of December 2009.

In the era of Facebook, Twitter and MSN, amateur or Ham Radio is still king for many. Phil Maskrey of Newry is one of those people who is hooked on Ham Radio. Every evening from his radio shack, Phil chats with people from all around the world. Phil's passion was sparked as a child but has been almost a full time hobby since the mid 90's when Phil got his licence. While amateur in some sense, Ham Radio is a highly regulated area with rules, regulations and protocols which enthusiasts guard. Phil says he gets as much pleasure from manufacturing the antenna he uses and other bits of equipment as he does from talking to other enthusiasts around the world. However, he still loves a chat!
