2010 WIA AGM Weekend of Activities

Each year the WIA hosts its "WIA AGM Weekend Of Activities" a special weekend event aimed at providing a range of special activities that are of particular interest to radio amateurs.

This years event is dedicated to celebrating The Centenary of Organised Amateur Radio in Australia.

This not to be missed weekend commences Friday evening the 28th of May and runs through to the afternoon of Sunday the 30th. There will be a range of special activities for members and partners in addition to the WIA AGM and Open Forum meetings. Activities will include a series of highly informative historical presentations on the early days of radio, the VK100WIA special event station calling CQ from the weekend venue, a Centenary dinner with local and international dignitaries and a planned ARISS contact with International Space Station. The AGM Weekend Of Activities will conclude on Sunday the 30th with a live outside broadcast of the VK1WIA national news, a public display of Amateur Radio and a special BBQ in the local park sponsored by Yaesu.

There is also a special alternative Saturday program for XYL's and partners with a bus tour covering some of Canberra's most famous tourist attractions, the tour will include a one hour cruise on Lake Burley Griffin aboard an air-conditioned cruise boat.

Registered weekend participants will also receive a Centenary conference satchel being presented with the compliments of Icom Australia. Each satchel will contain a Centenary call book, Centenary tie pin, WIA pen, our re-released CD "The Sounds of Amateur Radio Vol 1" and Amateur Radio magazines from1933 to 1939 on CD in pdf format. Weekend participants will also receive a complimentary Centenary poster for their shack wall.
