Neil Penfold VK6NE - Silent Key

The WIA office received advice on Tuesday of the passing of Neil Penfold VK6NE on the 28 September. Neil had been a long time member of the Amateur Radio fraternity and had served in many capacities at both a State and Federal/National level. Neil served as Federal President from 1994-1998.

He was a Federal Contest Manager from 1965-1970, a WA Division Secretary from 1965-1978, a Federal Councilor from 1968 to 1993, the Federal and now National QSL Bureau Manager from 1980 until now, along with VK9/0. Neil was granted honorary Life Membership of the WIA in 2001 and this year was honoured with the naming of the Neil Penfold State Amateur Radio Centre at Whiteman Park, home of the Northern Corridor Radio Group.

Amateur radio has lost a true gentleman, a loyal and dedicated member of the WIA, and a friend and mentor to many. The WIA extends condolences to Neil's family and friends.

The Funeral will take place at 10.00am on Saturday 2 Oct at Pinnaroo Chapel Padbury.
