Antenna Masts in NSW – write to your MP

Date : 18 / 11 / 2012
Author : Roger Harrison - VK2ZRH

The battle over NSW planning restrictions on amateur radio antenna masts now has to enter a new phase – the political campaign. We want you to write a polite letter to your local member, to briefly explain our issue with planning restrictions and council red tape when you want to put up an antenna mast, and to ask them to find out why this matter is NOT being considered in the current Planning System Review.

If you don’t already know, or are unsure of the details of who to write to, here’s how to find out. Guidelines on writing your letter, along with other information on the community benefits of amateur radio, can be downloaded from the links below.

Amateurs of NSW – get cracking!

Finding your electorate and local member

Go to the Australian Electoral Commission website at www.aec.gov.au

Mouse over the "Enrol to vote" tab and you’ll see "Check enrolment". Click on that and then follow the instructions. You won’t be telling them anything they don’t already know.

Once you know your State District electorate, you can find your local member on the NSW Parliament website at: www.parliament.nsw.gov.au.

In the "Legislative Assembly" panel, click on "Members" and it will give you a list. Sort the list by clicking on "Electorate" at the top of the page. Scroll down to your electorate and click on that. This will open the MP's page, which has all the contact details you want.

Use your local member’s electorate office address. This gives the correct details for addressing the MP when writing. For example:

Member for Baulkham Hills:
Mr David Elliott, MP
Suite 1
25-33 Old Northern Road
BAULKHAM HILLS NSW 2153

Member for Goulburn:
The Hon. Pru Goward, MP
288 Bong Bong Street
BOWRAL NSW 2576

Member for Northern Tablelands:
The Hon. Richard Torbay, MP
PO Box 77
ARMIDALE NSW 2350

You may want to add "Member for XYZ" under their name.
