Author : Jim Linton - VK3PC

As many are already aware, the WIA 2015 Annual General Meeting (AGM) weekend in May will be in national capital city of Canberra. WIA President Phil Wait VK2ASD announced on this weeks WIA news broadcast details for the weekend. Phil said that a suitable modern and ideal venue in a central location had been found that is affordable for the members. The big hotels checked out had exhoritant prices at $75 for a plate of sandwiches, but the WIA has found an ideal venue.

Details for the weekend are as follows; On Friday May 8 in the evening an informal dinner and get-together will be at King O'Malleys Hotel, in the Canberra CBD. The Hotel has offered the use of their Guinness Room - also known as the Arcade - for our WIA get together. The Guinness room is somewhat away from the main, busy part of the hotel, so all the eyeball QSOs can proceed without disturbing other hotel patrons, and vice versa. King O'Malleys has a good menu and good range of beverages, both on tap and in bottles, so it should be a great night for those who can come along.

On Saturday May 9, starting sharply at 9am, is the WIA AGM and Open Forum in the Poseidon Room at the Canberra City Hellenic Club, which is in Moore Street, Canberra. It is conveniently located in the heart of the CBD, with easy access to a wide range of Hotel accommodation and parking nearby. Following lunch at the Hellenic Club, a special afternoon program is planned to celebrate not only 10 years of the Foundation Licence, but also includes a series of interesting and informative presentations along the theme of "Amateur Radio to the Future". Phil VK2ASD said that the WIA particularly encourages Foundation licensees to attend the weekend -and even ex-Foundation licensees! Those who entered our wonderful hobby and have since upgraded. Attendance at the AGM, Open Forum and presentations including morning and afternoon teas, and lunch, at the Canberra City Hellenic Club is just $21 per head.

At 7pm on Saturday the traditional WIA Annual Dinner will be at the Hellenic Club, with some thought-provoking dinner speakers. A seat at the Annual Dinner is $35 per person. During the dinner, there will be a cash bar setup for your drinks and refreshments. Sunday May 10 will an opportunity to explore the many local Canberra attractions.

With the ANZAC centenary underway, an enormous amount is happening in Canberra, with exhibits, displays and places to visit., So much so, that we decided to give people free choice to tour whatever interests them at their own pace. Canberra’s tourist information brochures and links to websites will be in the registration pack so that you can plan what you want to do.
In what will be a great weekend of fellowship, camaraderie, interest and FUN, see you in Canberra.

Online registration will be on the WIA website soon. In the meantime check out the 2015 WIA AGM Weekend page under the News and Events dropdown menu on the WIA Website, or click the following Link
