At least four people have died, about 29 injured and some are missing after a mudslide swept through the town of Corinto in Colombia's south-west Cauca province. At dusk as a result of flooding the La Paila River burst its banks to cover the town with mud and rocks. An HF net on 7.117 kHz was activated on November 7 that saw radio amateurs helping rescuers.
Director and Coordinator of the Emergency Service at Liga de Radioaficionados de Cali, Juan Manuel Yanguas HK5AKN, reports that the emergency network is keeping the risk management authorities informed about injured and missing people and temporary shelters. "We continue monitoring and will inform about more risks," he said, as the landslide had a spreading footprint in the mountainous area of Colombia.
