Welcome in 2023 to the Remembrance Day Contest, Australia’s biggest and most significant annual amateur radio competition Sat 12th August 2023, 0300 UTC .
The RD contest commemorates the Amateurs who died during World War II and is designed to encourage friendly participation and help improve the operating skills of participants. It is held on the weekend closest to the 15th August, the date on which hostilities ceased in the southwest Pacific area.
It is preceded by a short opening address by a Guest Speaker transmitted on various WIA frequencies during the minutes prior to the contest. During this ceremony, a roll call of amateurs who paid the supreme sacrifice during WWII is read.
The perpetual trophy is ordinarily held by the WIA at its national office and is inscribed annually with the name of the winning State or Territory.
The RD Contest Opening Speech and audio files are available for download at the bottom of this page.
The sequence for the 2023 RD Contest Opening Speech is 20min in duration. This gives 4min 40sec of "this frequency is in use" and pips, then the 15min 20sec speech sequence.
For a broadcast before the Contest: START the speech at 0239:59 UTC (or 023:59 UTC if you choose to cut off the first four minutes.)
