Recently there has been active discussions between ACMA Assessors to what the actual waiting time is before a candidate that was unsuccessful in passing an Amateur Radio Theory Exam can resit another exam of the same type.
Given that the candidate could not sit the same exam, some assessors had incorrectly assumed that a candidate could resit a different exam paper in less than the 3 months waiting period.
The ACMA Assessor guidelines are clear.
See WIA member Andy Keir’s VK2AAK's email correspondence below with ACMA which clarifies the situation.
Hello,
The currently published assessor guidelines state:
An accredited assessor can only provide a resit examination for a theory or regulations component of an examination for the same qualification level to a candidate who undertook the initial examination no less than 3 months ago.
I interpret this as meaning an assessor cannot conduct another assessment for the candidate within three months, however this is being interpreted by some assessors as “as long as the candidate is completing a new exam (different to the previous) then the 3 months doesn't apply”.
I would be grateful if you could provide some clarification.
Kind Regards,
Andy Keir VK2AAK
This is the answer I received this morning.
It seems my interpretation was correct that candidates need to wait three months, not just until a new exam is published.
Dear Andy Keir
Thank you for following up this query.
You are correct, the candidate will need to wait three months before attempting a regulations or theory examination at the same level again.
Kind regards
