Become the WIA Contest Champion

Date : 22 / 06 / 2026
Author : WIA

The WIA Contest Champion, awarded through the VK4PJ Peter Brown Trophy, recognises the best combined performance across WIA-sponsored contests each year. To qualify, entrants must be WIA members and submit logs in at least three qualifying contests. Points are awarded for placing in eligible single-operator and multi-operator categories, so consistent participation matters as much as one heroic weekend of yelling “CQ Contest” into the void.

There are eight qualifying contest groups, including the John Moyle Memorial Field Day, Harry Angel, Remembrance Day Contest, Oceania DX Phone and CW, VHF/UHF Field Days, VK Trans-Tasman and VK Shires. Your best performances are combined, with points awarded for category placings. Use a consistent callsign across the year, submit accurate logs, and make sure multi-operator entries list all operators properly, because apparently even glory requires administration.

So, how do you become Contest Champion? Get active, enter multiple WIA contests, improve your station and operating skills, submit your logs, and keep coming back. Whether you operate from home, portable, QRP, VHF/UHF, HF, phone, CW or mixed mode, every contest is another chance to build your score and have a serious tilt at the Peter Brown Trophy.
