Work on Station Inspections Continues

Date : 10 / 08 / 2011
Author : Michael Owen - VK3KI

Early this year the WIA raised with the ACMA issues relating to the inspection of stations and the background and the WIA position was set out in the Comment published in the April 2011 issue of Amateur Radio magazine. Since then, the WIA has met with the ACMA, the last time being Friday 6 August 2011, when WIA President Michael Owen and WIA government liaison Peter Young attended a meeting in Melbourne.

The issues have been refined to two basic issues – the way inspections are arranged and conducted and, secondly, what equipment an amateur may possess. There is effective agreement between the WIA and the ACMA on the first issue and substantial agreement in principle on the second issue. The real difficulty in respect of the second issue is to find an adequate expression of the position in principle that is not simply confusing.

WIA President Michael Owen said that he was very satisfied with the approach being taken to date by the ACMA officers involved and appreciated that some of the issues did raise complicated issues in the legislative framework. Further information will be contained in the "Comment" section of the September issue of AR Magazine.
