WIA Hosts IARU Region 3 ARDF Championships in Goldfields country

98 competitors from teams from Australia, Malaysia, Korea, Kazakhstan, Japan, China and the USA together with 26 international officials and many of the 58 volunteers assembled in the Community Hall in Maldon, Victoria, Australia for the opening of the IARU Region 3 ARDF Championships, being hosted by the Wireless Institute of Australia. Maldon is in the centre of the historic goldfields area of Victoria.
WIA ARDF Coordinator and organiser of the event, Jack Bramham VK3WWW welcomed everyone on behalf of the WIA and the Victorian ARDF Group. WIA President and IARU Region 3 Chairman Michael Owen VK3KI told everyone that this was the first time he had been able to be in both roles at the same time. He said that the ARDF Championships were particularly important for IARU Region 3 as it was one of the few activities undertaken by the Region that was not focussed it its representational role. On behalf of each of the Directors and the Secretary of IARU Region 3, he declared the Championships Open.
The first competition is on Sunday on VHF. Monday is a sightseeing and recovery day which will start with a Steam Train trip and conclude with an Australian barbeque. The final competition on 80 metres will be on Tuesday.
The last official activity will be closing and awards ceremony on Tuesday night.
